Manuscript Evaluation

Manuscript evaluations are an integral part in your writing journey, and if you are currently on the hunt for one, you have come to the right place. 

As a self-published author herself, Jade recognises first-hand just how important feedback from readers can be. Embarking on a writing journey can be a lonely one, but it doesn’t have to be. Jade understands just how hard it can be to find trustworthy and reliable readers; handing over your book baby is a difficult choice to make! 

Not only will she handle your BB with care, she will respect your craft and comment not only on the ‘problem areas’, but the positive parts as well. 

Jade centres her evaluations around a personal questionnaire—listed below, her comments will be made in Microsoft Word using tracked changes and she will also include an evaluation separate to your manuscript.

Evaluation Checklist

Plot

1. Does the plot make sense?

2. Were there any errors, inconsistencies, or plot holes?

3. Were the protagonist’s goals clear?

4. Did you feel immersed in the story?

Characters

1. Were the characters likeable/relatable?

2. Is there anything you didn’t like about any of the characters?

3. Which character(s) do you wish was developed more?

Pacing

1. Were there any points where the pacing was too fast/too slow?

2. Did you deem any scenes unnecessary/boring/lacking conviction?

3. Do you wish any scenes were expanded?

Dialogue

1. Was the dialogue realistic?

2. Could you tell who was conversing based on dialogue tags/character voice?

Description

1. Could you visualise the setting for every scene? If not, where could be expanded?

2. Could you visualise the characters? If not, who needed more description? 

Writing

1. Was the narrative voice consistent throughout?

2. Were there any overused words or phrases you noted?

3. Was the tense consistent throughout?

Overall

1. What scene was your favourite, and why?

2. What scene was your least favourite, and why?

3. Which character did you relate to more, and why? 

4. Were there any parts of the story that seemed to be ‘not believable’?

5. Were there parts of the story where you lost interest at all?
